The () announced that after the successful completion of a national search, Dr. Brian Stogner, PhD was named the institution’s fifth president. Dr. Stogner is an experienced administrator who understands the broad needs of higher education institutions and the specific needs of psychology programs, both nationally and within the state of Michigan. Prior to joining , Dr. Stogner served as the president and CEO of Rochester Christian University, in Rochester Hills, MI.

“We are confident that Dr. Stogner is the innovative, decisive, strategic, and energetic leader with a deep commitment to the value and importance of higher education our community sought in its national search,” said ’s Board of Trustees.

Dr. Stogner has a PhD and MA in clinical psychology from Wayne State University and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan-Flint. He served the southeast and central Michigan areas as a practicing psychologist for over 20 years. Dr. Stogner has a vast range of experience within higher education having served as faculty, department chair, vice president, provost, and president at his previous institutions.

Dr. Stogner’s tenure as President begins on January 1, 2025. In his role as President, Dr. Stogner is responsible for the general management of all aspects of the academic, student, financial, development, and administrative operations of the institution. He will play a crucial role in building and cultivating financial support. Dr. Stogner is also tasked with developing and executing the institution’s next strategic plan.

“My aspiration for is that we become the pre-eminent institution in the Midwest for educating and training multi-culturally competent, clinically adept, and interpersonally sensitive psychologists who engage in clinical and scholarly work and service that transforms lives and communities. Though that is an admittedly lofty objective, I believe it is attainable. To achieve such an ambitious goal will require the engagement, partnership, and contributions of people from the entire extended community of . Faculty, staff, students, alumni, clinical partners, and members of the broader public touched by the work and mission of will all have critical roles to play,” stated Dr. Stogner.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brian Stogner as the ’s fifth president. We are confident that Dr. Stogner is the innovative, decisive, strategic, and energetic leader with a deep commitment to the value and importance of higher education our community sought in its national search.

Currently the president and CEO of Rochester Christian University (formerly known as Rochester University and Rochester College), Dr. Stogner has had a long career in higher education. He first served in the roles of faculty, department chair, vice president and provost, before becoming president of Rochester Christian University in 2016.

Dr. Stogner is a first-generation college student, earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan-Flint and master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Wayne State University. He was a practicing psychologist for over 20 years in southeast and central Michigan in private practice, university, and medical settings.

Dr. Stogner’s tenure as president will begin on January 1, 2025. He will be working closely with current leadership throughout the fall semester to prepare for his new role. You may see him on campus periodically during this time to attend events and activities.

President Dr. Spitsbergen will continue to lead the institution through the fall semester and assist in preparations for a successful transition. The Board of Trustees thanks him for his dedicated service and support to these past two years.

This announcement is the culmination of a thorough national search process guided by the work of our presidential search committee. The Board of Trustees would like to express our gratitude to the members of the presidential search committee and to each and every individual member of our campus community who participated in the candidate interviews. Your feedback and perspective were critical to the Board’s decision-making process.

The search committee finished first round interviews last Friday, June 28, 2024. Immediately following interviews they met to deliberate and decide which candidates to move forward to final round, on-campus interviews. Three candidates were chosen and more information on those candidates will be shared next week.

On-campus interviews will take place on Monday, July 15th, Tuesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 18th. The agenda for each day is the same and is as follows:

The goal remains to submit an unrankedrecommendationof finalists to the Board of Trustees by the end of this month.Only the Board of Trustees has the authority to select the next President of .Per the Michigan Legislature, the control of the business and secular affairs of every such educational corporation shall be vested in a board of directors or trustees. Such board shall also have exclusive control over the educational affairs and policy of such institution, and as such mayappoint, employ and pay the salary of a president, or principal(MCL 450.175).

The search committee met on June 4, 2024 to review the qualified applicants. As a result of that meeting and a follow-up meeting later that week, the committee selected seven applicants to invite to a first-round Zoom interview. These applicants have all been scheduled to interview the week of June 24th (three applicants on June 24th, two applicants on June 25th and two applicants on June 28th). The committee is now working on finalizing interview questions for those applicants.
Immediately following the seven interviews, the search committee will determine who to invite to the on-campus interviews which are currently scheduledfor theweeks of July 8th and July 15th. Further information about those dates and times will be communicated as soon as available. We look forward to this process and to the involvement of all community members.

The position of president was posted nationally on May 4th.   • Institutional Alignment (keeping in mind ’s purpose, mission, vision and values for the “fit” of any candidate)
  • How to Evaluate CV’s
  • A Tour of the Common Resume Biases
  • Best Practices in Higher Education Presidential Searches
  • InterviewQuestions: Do’s and Don’ts

At this meeting, the search committee will also discuss the candidate screening matrix, gather signed confidentiality agreements and answer any questions that any members may have.

The application deadline for the position isJune 1st.

OnJune 4ththe search committee will meet to review candidates and decide who to move forward to a first-round interview. Candidates chosen for an interview will be contacted by Amanda Ming and scheduled for Zoom interviews the week of June 24th.

Upon completion of first-round interviews, the search committee will determine who to invite to campus for final interviews. These interviews will be scheduled theweeks of July 8 and 15.Candidates will meet with the following constituent groups while on campus:

I am writing to you to announce that the ’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously at our last meeting to conduct a national search to appoint the next permanent leader of the . As you know, on September 23, 2022, the Board of Trustees announced a transition in the presidency and Dr. Brian Spitsbergen was appointed as the Interim President. At that time, the Board made a commitment to the community to conduct a national search when the time was appropriate. Thanks to the enormous amount of progress Dr. Spitsbergen has made in helping to stabilize the institution during his tenure, the Board is confident that now is the time to honor that commitment and to conduct a national search to name the next permanent leader of the . Dr. Spitsbergen has the full support of the Board of Trustees to lead the institution during the remainder of his tenure, and we have encouraged him to apply for the position.

The Board is committed to conducting a thorough and transparent search to identify a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates to interview for the position. We will be encouraging stakeholder participation throughout the search process. Search committee appointments will begin in the coming weeks and will include students, faculty and staff. It is our goal is to name the next president of by September 1st. The community can expect to be updated on our progress through emails and posts to a presidential search webpage on ’s website.
