First Semester 2021-2022 Review

It’s time for our annual Year in Review! As we look back on each semester of the academic year, we reflect on the changes we have experienced, as individuals and a community. We’re so happy that this year marked the return of some of our favorite in-person events.

Incoming students were able to joined on campus for orientation on August 31st. During orientation, students were able to get to know each other by playing icebreakers, hear from continuing students about their º£½ÇÂÒÂ× experience, learn about campus organizations and more!

Its become an annual tradition for the º£½ÇÂÒÂ× community to participate in Metro Detroit’s Out of Darkness walk in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. On Saturday, October 16th, º£½ÇÂÒÂ× participated from afar by raising money for our team and going on a masked walk around Heritage Park while the larger event was held in Ferndale.

During the week of October 18th to 22nd, the Environmental Conservation Organization (ECO) at º£½ÇÂÒÂ× hosted a community clothing swap. The event began with students, faculty, and staff to bringing gently used items of clothing that they no longer utilize to campus. After the collection was complete, they could then select new items. This helped to reduce the environmental impacts of clothing consumption.

On November 20th the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance (IDEA) at º£½ÇÂÒÂ× held a vigil in observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance. The vigil was part of a national day of observance to honor all those who lost their lives in acts of anti-transgender violence. IDEA President, Monique Nash (MA) (speaking in photo) and Dr. River Farrell (adjunct faculty) spoke at the event.Ìý

Rounding out the semester, IDEA participated in Adopt-A-Family. This year IDEA supported a young mother with five children under the ages of 11 who had recently been reunited. Through physical and monetary donations, IDEA was able to help make this holiday season a bit brighter by providing the family with gifts. Members of IDEA, including Programming Chair Tara Pope (PsyD 1) (pictured right), were able to wrap and deliver the gifts.Ìý
