º£½ÇÂÒÂ× is pleased to welcome Carrie Hauser, our new Coordinator of Admissions & Student Engagement.
Give us a snapshot of your professional/academic background:

I started my career in Higher Education at Eastern Michigan University getting my Bachelors in Children’s Literature and Theater. I directly moved to Indiana State University to gain my Masters in Student Affairs and Higher Education. While I was there, I was working in Residential Life for the university. I then took a two year hiatus where I decided to move to China and teach English. When I moved back to the United States I moved to Columbus, OH where I started working for Capital University in Residential Life. I spent four years there and completed an MBA through the school. Working in Residential Life allows you to do a little bit of everything and I was very thankful for that experience.
What attracted you to working at º£½ÇÂÒÂ×?
As I was searching for a new position in Student Affairs, I was very interested in broadening my scope into a different department than Res Life. I oversaw and developed a lot of programming initiatives in my previous role so the student engagement piece of º£½ÇÂÒÂ×’s job description first drew me in. I was excited about the prospect of filling both of the roles of student engagement and admissions. When I came for my interview I saw that the staff at º£½ÇÂÒÂ× is very tight knit and truly supports one another. I also really enjoyed the idea of working at a small institution where you can truly be a part of students’ lives.
Describe your role at º£½ÇÂÒÂ×:
I oversee student engagement and the front lines of the admissions process at º£½ÇÂÒÂ×. This means that I develop programming and growth opportunities for our current students while relating the experience of º£½ÇÂÒÂ× to future students.
What has been your favorite part of the job so far?
It’s hard to choose just one. I have really enjoyed becoming part of the team here and getting to know everyone. I also was worried I would lose a lot of the student connections I had at my previous job, but I was excited to find that I still get to interact closely with our student body.
What is one thing that people might be surprised to know about you?
On the side, I am the Financial Officer for a non-profit in Pontiac, MI. Also, I just have Antarctica left and then I’ll have been to all seven continents.
